NHH full form in Medical term is Non-Ketotic Hyperglycaemic Hemichorea, widely called diabetic striatopathy, hyperglycemia, chorea, basal ganglia syndrome. It is the most common neurological issue of non-ketotic hyperglycemia with non-ketotic hyperglycaemic seizures and non-ketotic hyperosmolar coma.
In simple words, high blood sugar or hyperglycemia affects a person with diabetes. Several factors may play a role in hyperglycemia in diabetics. Not taking enough insulin or other medications or skipping doses to lower blood sugar can also cause hyperglycemia. However, if not treated, it can cause severe health issues that need immediate assistance, including a diabetic coma. Sometimes it may also affect the kidneys, eyes, heart, and nerves.
Symptoms of hyperglycemia are mild to build up over weeks or several days. The fact is that the longer the blood sugar level remains, the more server symptoms may appear. Early symptoms and signs of NHH include increased thirst, frequent urination, weakness, unusual tiredness, and blurred vision. If not treated at a primary stage, it can become worsen and cause toxic acids named ketones. Later symptoms and signs include abdominal pain, fruit-smelling breath, dry mouth, confusion, shortness of breath, loss of consciousness, nausea, and vomiting.
