PBF full form in medical term is Peripheral Blood Film, and it is also known as Peripheral Blood Smear or PBS. It is a blood test done to check any sort of abnormalities in the blood and it can be used to identify certain types of blood-related diseases as well. Along with that, doctors can refer for a PBF test to check the complete blood count or CBC. However, the peripheral blood film is quite helpful to identify different leucocyte stages in the blood.
PBF is not only limited to checking blood cell count, it is also helpful in recognizing and diagnosing diseases like anaemia, malaria infection, and other abnormalities such as thrombocytosis, atypical cell, etc. The blood sample taken by the examiner is extracted using the finger prick method, and the examiner checks your blood by smearing it on the glass slide.
