What is The Full Form of PIVD?

PIVD full form in medical term means Prolapsed Intervertebral Disc. It refers to the clinical entity of protrusion or the extrusion of the nucleus pulposus through the rent in the annulus fibrosus. It generally has four different stages and is categorized as bulging, protrusion, extrusion, and lastly sequestration. PIVD is treated with the use of surgical treatment where the nerve roots are decompressed and helped to recover back to the normal stage.

What Else About PIVD Should You Know?

PIVD starts with the bulging where the disc becomes stretched and cannot return to its normal shape. This in turn causes some of the fibers in the disc to get torn and cause spilling of the nucleus pulposus. The bulge when it becomes prominent caused the protruding where the nucleus pulposus is completely spilled out. In this stage, the patient will likely suffer from pain and restriction in movement. The protruding disc will later cause the extrusion and the sequestration where the disc completely breaks away and causes slipped disc. Medically, surgery has been known to heal this issue. However, if it can be identified in the earlier stage then you can cure it with manual recovery and therapy.
