The full form of LONS in Medical is Late-Onset Neonatal Sepsis, also called Late Onset Neonatal Septicemia. This is a kind of neonatal infection that happens in newborn babies. Neonatal sepsis is divided into two categories. The first one is early neonatal sepsis, and the second one is late-onset neonatal sepsis. Late-Onset Neonatal Sepsis occurs when the infection onsets seven days after the birth. Some countries may use the same turn for the infection after three days. This is a common cause of death among newborn babies.

Some symptoms of Late-Onset Neonatal Sepsis are body temperature change, diarrhoea, breathing problem, low blood sugar, reduced sucking, reduced movement, seizures, swollen belly area, bradycardia, vomiting, jaundice and hemorrhagic rashes. In addition, some babies may also have a high heart rate of 160 beats per minute. Diagnosing Late-Onset Neonatal Sepsis is difficult, and usually, it is only noticed at the respiratory collapse. Urine culture and blood culture may offer some valuable insights, but the result of these tests can take up to 48 hours.
