SDP Full Form in Medical

What Is The Full Form Of SPD In Medical?

SPD full form in medical term is Single Donor Platelet. It is a platelet transfusion method that is quite common in the medical world. You may have heard of the term “Low platelets count or platelets deficiency.” Well, SPD is a great way to treat such a medical condition by using the transfusion method. Usually, the platelet count in our body is anywhere between 150,000 to 450,000 per microliter. If the platelet count goes below the 150k mark, it actually increases the risk of the patient not being able to form blood clots on the wound, which ultimately increases the risk of excessive bleeding.

Which One Is More Effective, SPD Or RDP?

Where SPD stands for Single Donor Platelet, RDP on the other hand means Random Donor Platelet infusion.  As the name suggests, with RDP infusion, doctors take and make up a batch for platelet infusion by taking platelets from random donors. But in the medical world, SPD is more effective as compared to the RDP method because, with a single donor, the chance of platelets getting rejected in the patient’s body is close to none.
