PPBS full form in medical term means Postprandial Blood Sugar Test. It is a medical diagnostic test done to monitor the level of diabetes in the patient. It helps to identify whether the body is producing enough insulin to help keep the blood sugar levels in check or not. The test is conducted by taking the blood sample of the patient and given to the laboratory for check. The patient is ideally asked to fast for 12 hours before the test and thereafter have a meal consisting of at least 75 gms of carbohydrate and then wait for two hours to determine whether the glucose levels are normal or not.
PPBS or Postprandial Blood Sugar Test can help detect and identify the prediabetes cases like type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and other types of diabetes like gestational diabetes. Normally when you have the test after two hours of your meals, if the results come out above the normal levels of 140-200 mg/dl then you may be at risk of diabetes.
