PRN Full Form in Medical is Pro re Nata, which means as required or as needed. It’s a term used frequently in medicine to denote that a therapy or drug should be given “as needed” instead of on a set timetable.
Studies have indicated that patients benefit from the PRN prescriptions of psychiatric drugs for the treatment of postoperative pain and symptom control.
As a result, a PRN prescription is frequently used for inpatients at hospitals. However, if doctors and nurses have different interpretations of the PRN prescription, it can create a significant medical issue if patients either don’t get the medications they need or get too few of them.

This study aimed to learn how hospital residents particularly ward nurses that assist with PRN prescription see the practice, how it is really implemented, and how often medication errors occur. The aforementioned research aimed to collect foundational knowledge on how to effectively prescribe PRN medications and reduce the risk of medication errors.
